"Students Taking Action and Responsibility for Success"
Every month, I meet with each classroom twice for 30 minute sessions on understanding and living out the five virtues. These five virtues are: Compassion, Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, and Fairness. We believe this character education puts the Myers Mission Statement, "Together, we positively educate the heart and mind," to action. While academics are certainly the focus at school, we want to go a step further and instill the five virtues into the students at an early age. The idea is if they can learn about, understand, explore, and put the virtues to action now, they will grow into adults who are mindful of how what they say and do affects others. Our hope is that the S.T.A.R.S. program will positively affect the individual students, their classrooms, their families, and the community as a whole.
